Nafplio and Epidaurus overnight trip
Athens is known for its history in drama, being the popular point of origin for comedy and tragedy. One of the first things we did in class was check out the Acropolis and the remnants of an outdoor theatre there (and the still in use Odeon).
In our fourth weekend, we took a charter bus to the old once-capitol Nafplio, to be closer to the famous outdoor theatre at Epidaurus, to see a play there during the Athens Theatre Festival.
We saw 'Iphigenia', and it was excellent.
Back in Nafplio, we had a little time off, and so one afternoon I did my aforementioned 'getting lost' method of getting to know a place, and was pleasantly surprised to find a duck and goose pond, and some Palmetto palm trees, as seen here from below.
Another brief interlude between programming, and I was able to take a dip in the Mediterranean Sea, which was amazing! It so salty, I found myself just floating and soaking up the sun with the gently lapping sea sounding off the stone perimeter of the once-fortress town.
Nafplio the town itself today is very quaint. There are a number of more tourist-y eateries, but we got the inside scoop of a most excellent gelato storefront. Best of the whole trip!
I would love to visit Nafplio again!
