Places to Visit in Dublin!

I am currently studying abroad in Dublin at University College Dublin (UCD), and I have discovered the Secret Lake! There are three lakes on campus, and two of them are easily accessable. You can often find ducks and swans swimming in the lakes, and many people visit them every day. These pictures show the Secret Lake and the trail you need to take to find it. It is beautiful, and I love the nature and wildlife. If you are adventurous, I highly encourage you to take a walk around campus so that you can discover it for yourself!

Another place that I recommend visiting is Saint Patrick's Cathedral, where I went on a guided tour with a listening device. I learned many interesting facts about Saint Patrick and the purpose of the Cathedral, which was founded in 1191. Saint Patrick first came to Ireland as a slave, and decided to become a priest so that he can spread Christianity to the pagan population in Ireland. His story is told through the glass windows in the Cathedral, which was fascinating to learn about. Prayer and praise to God through worship and music is the purpose of the Cathedral, and it is demonstrated during services throughout the year. I got to listen to a music sample of someone playing the organ, which sounded amazing. There has been an organ in the Cathedral since at least 1471, and the one we see today has been there since 1902. It was made by Willis's of Liverpool, and it has over four thousand pipes that have different lengths. The shorter ones have high pitch sounds, while the longer ones have deeper pitches. There is a spiral staircase that leads to the organ in the Cathedral, which is shown in one of these pictures. The organ also accompanies the choir, which is a common feature of medieval cathedrals. Historically, only men took the role of the choir, but today there are daily services that include girls who are often singing Evensong. I listened to a sample of the girl choristers, and it sounded beautiful! I highly recommend visiting this place if you are interested in learning more about its history or watching the choir.

I also recommend visiting these piers in Dun Loaghaire Harbour. The East Pier is a popular place for walkers and joggers who want to see spectacular views. There is a lighthouse at the end of the pier with an ice cream shop called Teddy's. I tried some and it was delicious! I have also learned about the its history through facts posted around the pier. The construction began in 1817, but it was not completed until 1859. About one thousand workers had to endure difficult and dangerous conditions to build this Harbour. I recommend going on a tour to learn more about its history and to see its amazing views.
