General Opinion: Food/Restaurants in Paris
Throughout the entire trip in Paris, I ate outside occasionally
and every time I did so, I tried to diversify what I ate on each occasion. In the city, I happened to find more food that
originated outside of France, rather than inside of France. There are countless
Jewish, Italian, Indian, and other restaurants that serve traditional food.
Though the food origin was mainly different, all the restaurants maintained a standard
of taste and flavor that was of great quality. Most often, the food took a
while to arrive after the order was made, but it was always prepared with great
taste and flavor. On the other hand, there was a handful of restaurants that
delivered the food within a few minutes, but it was easy to tell that it wasn’t
prepared very well. In regards to pricing, most main course meals ranged
anywhere from 15 – 30 euros, and the size of the meal varies depending on the
restaurants. About half of the restaurants provide a meal that takes up a full
12 inch plate, and the other half provide a meal that fills a 7 inch plate. The
prices are generally constant, but the size varied.
Aside from the food and
size, the service in the restaurants is generally constant in most places. Upon
entering, most people wait for a waiter to ask for the amount of guests, or the
guest just approaches the waiter and asks for a table for the group.
Afterwards, the waiter brings the menu and decorates the table with napkins and
utensils. When ordering the meal, most people accompany it with water. When
ordering water in Paris, tap water is offered at no fee. However, my friend and
I made a mistake when we excluded the word “tap” and, as a result, were given bottled
water at a charge of 5 euros.
