Adopting a Third Language
I have been living in Paris for almost a month now and I can say that the city is a jewel. The people and their culture is unique and reserved but at the time diverse and common. You can find almost any cultural tradition from around the world through the Parisian streets. This maybe in food, art, music, literature, language, and others.
The acceptance Parisians have towards other cultures is fascinating. Most of the Parisians speak, in addition to French, English and Spanish. I was surprised how well they speak Spanish because although France shares a "border" with Spain, Paris is far North from Spain. However, it is not their capability to speak 3 languages (or more) what surprises me the most. What really grabs my attention is how the United States, mainly its big cities like L.A. or N.Y, rely heavily on the English language to navigate. That is not to say that there are not other languages spoken but that they are not as common by non-native speakers like it is here in Paris.
