A Weekend in Paris

This weekend has proved to be a truly unforgettable one.

Saturday was Bastille Day, the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille (Like a French 4th of July). My roommates and I visited Champ de Mars, the local hotspot for viewing the fireworks show at the Eiffel Tower. It was a struggle finding a good spot, as there were hundreds of thousands of people pushing towards the center, but we managed to find our way through. The show was breathtaking, unlike any other. The Eiffel Tower was beautifully integrated into the show, with visuals projected onto it and fireworks launching from the tower itself!

Although Bastille Day happens every year, I was lucky enough to witness another event that occurs far less often: The World Cup. For those who don't know, the World Cup is held once every four years. The craziest part is that France won this year! We watched the game from a local cafe, and it was fully packed. French fans cheered their team on, chanting "Allez Les Bleus!" (Go Blue!). Whenever they scored a goal, the crowd went wild: the whole cafe was jumping up and down, celebrating like there's no tomorrow. When France was victorious, the atmosphere was of pure elation. The last time France won the World Cup was in 1998. The streets continued to celebrate for hours afterwards, we could hear the cheers and honks from our apartment all night long.

The combination of Bastille Day and France winning the World Cup made this weekend a once in a lifetime experience, definitely one I'll never forget.
