Hallo Berlin! :)
We landed in Berlin at 5pm last week. By the time we headed to the hotel at 8pm, the sky was still as bright as noon.
I consider myself a professional traveller, not just because I enjoy travelling, but because jet lag usually doesn't slow me down for more than a day. So by day two, I was already energized and ready for a museum adventure.
My favourite day of the week was Wednesday. We took an hour-long train ride to a little town called Spreewald. Unlike the past couple of days of heat that rivaled SoCal, it was rainy and even a little chilly. The houses there looked completely different from Berlin's, probably because the town was untouched by the war. Everything about the place felt like stepping into a movie.
We went kayaking on a river that wound through the village, framed by houses and forest on both sides. The first 30 minutes were pure tranquility. Then my arms started to ache, and my whole body came under attack from the mosquitoes that call those woods home.
My second favourite day was Sunday, when I visited the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) with a friend. I've always loved Impressionist art, so it was wonderful to see an exhibition dedicated to the movement. My favourite piece was Manet's painting of Monet's wife and son in the garden.
Also, I didn’t expect to see Van Gogh here!
