Week Three in Denmark: Swimming, Exploring, and a Quick Trip to Sweden
Week three in Denmark has been pretty chill and lowkey, but still filled with fun moments and new experiences. This week, our class didn’t go on any excursions, which gave us a lot more free time to explore Copenhagen on our own. It was a nice change of pace and gave me the chance to slow down a bit and enjoy the city in a more relaxed way.
One of the highlights of the week was definitely swimming in the Copenhagen harbor. Before coming here, I had no idea that Copenhagen is one of the few capital cities in Europe where the water is clean enough to swim in. That’s just one of the many things I love about how environmentally conscious and clean the city is. We’ve been lucky to have a string of warm, sunny days lately, so it was the perfect time to take a dip. The water was definitely cold at first, but it ended up being super refreshing, especially after walking around the city all day. I even worked up the courage to jump off the platform into the water, which gave me a fun little adrenaline rush.
Later in the week, some friends and I took a trip to a small coastal town just outside of Copenhagen called Dragør. It’s a quiet little village with cobblestone streets, charming houses, and a beautiful waterfront. We just wandered around, took in the views, and relaxed. We ended up stumbling across a small park where we spent some time jumping on a trampoline and pushing each other on the swing set. It felt a little silly, but also like a wholesome break from our usual busy schedules. From Dragør, we could even see the Øresund Bridge that connects Denmark and Sweden, which was so cool.
Speaking of Sweden, another highlight of the week was taking the train to Malmö! It was a super easy 40-minute ride straight from Copenhagen Central Station, which made it a perfect day trip. Once we arrived, we spent the afternoon exploring the city. One of my favorite spots was Kungsparken, a beautiful green park with winding paths and little streams full of ducks. We also found a super cute candy shop that sold traditional Swedish candies, which of course we had to try.
All in all, this week was a great mix of adventure and relaxation. I loved having the freedom to explore at my own pace and take advantage of the nice weather. I’m excited to see what the next week brings!
