Sea Turtles in Guanacaste, Costa Rica: Week 4
¡Hola tortuga aficionados! Here is week 4 wrapped up into one cute-quick summary. A lot happened this week. We returned to San Juanillo which was the first town that we arrived at th start of this journey. The main goal of this week was to work on our independent projects. These are our main projects that are also the final for this course. The goal of the project is to study some aspects of ecology within Costa Rica, to utilize what we have learned about field work in order to carry out our own research now. My project was to observe the vultures to see if they were attracted to the presence of people. When I was conducting my measurements, I had my lab assistant Shakira who was one of the local pups who would accompany us to the different outings.
Within all the crazy data work, it was still important to take time for yourself and relax, I would go watch the sunset which by the equator happens really quickly. At the beaches of San Juanillo, the sunset is a point in time I could live in forever.
To end the week, we got to participate in Guanacaste’s independence day celebration on July 25th. This festival included bull riding, horse competitions, a live band performance, food and dancing. It was a really great festival that really showed us students the history and full culture of Costa Rica.
