Week 5: Adeu Barcelona

During my fifth and final week in the Cognitive Science Global Seminar in Barcelona, I embarked on memorable excursions, savored local delicacies, and prepared to bid farewell to a city that had become my home away from home.

One of the highlights of this week was a trip to Costa Brava, specifically the charming town of Cadaqués. Known for its stunning coastal beauty and its association with Salvador Dalí, Cadaqués was a picturesque escape from the bustling city. To my surprise, the town was filled with French tourists. The prevalence of French speakers added an unexpected twist to our visit, making me feel like I was experiencing a blend of Spanish and French cultures. Despite the crowd, the beauty of Cadaqués was undeniable, with its crystal-clear waters and white-washed buildings providing a perfect backdrop for exploration.

Another culinary adventure this week was trying fideuà, a traditional Catalan dish similar to paella but made with noodles instead of rice. We dined at a local restaurant renowned for its seafood, and the fideuà was a standout. The rich flavors of the dish, infused with fresh seafood and savory broth, were a delightful culinary discovery. This meal was a testament to the diverse and delectable cuisine that Barcelona has to offer.

Our explorations also took us to Montjuïc, a historic hill that offers panoramic views of the city and the sea. Visiting Montjuïc was a perfect way to reflect on my time in Barcelona. The hill is home to several attractions, including the Montjuïc Castle, the Magic Fountain, and the Olympic Stadium. Walking through these sites, I marveled at the blend of history and natural beauty. The vistas from Montjuïc provided a sweeping view of the city, allowing me to appreciate the vastness and vibrancy of Barcelona one last time.

As the week drew to a close, I found myself preparing to say goodbye to the city. The farewell was bittersweet. On one hand, I was excited to reunite with family and friends back home; on the other hand, leaving behind the experiences, friends, and newfound sense of belonging was difficult. Barcelona had not just been a place of study; it had become a significant chapter in my life, filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable memories.

Overall, my fifth week in Barcelona was a blend of scenic trips, culinary delights, and heartfelt goodbyes. Visiting Costa Brava Cadaqués, trying fideuà, and exploring Montjuïc were fitting finales to an incredible journey. As I bid farewell to this remarkable city, I carried with me the rich experiences and the deep connections formed during my time here, knowing that Barcelona will always hold a special place in my heart.
