Week 1: Barcelona!
During my first week in the Cognitive Science Global Seminar in Barcelona, I was warmly welcomed with a delightful dinner. We were served an array of around five different tapas dishes, each more delicious than the last. This meal provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the program to formally introduce themselves to one another, fostering a sense of community from the outset. Our classes ran from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm, a schedule that was perfectly designed to allow ample time to explore the vibrant city right after class ended.
This week was filled with indulging in an abundance of tapas (and, of course, enjoying some refreshing sangria). The culinary experiences were plentiful and diverse, reflecting the rich gastronomic culture of Barcelona. Additionally, I had the pleasure of hosting some friends from my hometown who visited me during this week. Their visit was lovely, and getting to experience the city with them added an extra layer of enjoyment to my time here. Exploring Barcelona's famous landmarks and hidden gems with familiar faces was a wonderful opportunity that I cherished.
Simultaneously, this week was about acclimating to my new environment. Understanding exactly where I was staying and finding places nearby where I could acquire sustenance was a priority. I began to familiarize myself with the charming area of Gracia, where my apartment is located. Gracia is a vibrant neighborhood known for its bohemian atmosphere, unique shops, and cozy cafes. The more I explored, the more I appreciated the lively yet relaxed vibe of the area.
I discovered local markets, quaint bakeries, and inviting restaurants that quickly became my go-to spots. The process of settling in and navigating my new surroundings was both exciting and challenging. Each day brought new discoveries and a growing sense of comfort and familiarity with my temporary home in Barcelona. Overall, my first week was a delightful blend of academic engagement, cultural immersion, and personal exploration, setting a promising tone for the rest of the seminar.
