Week 3: From Tapas to Coastal Treasures
This week, I tried tapas for the first time. Tapas are an integral part of Spanish cuisine and consist of small dishes meant to be shared. One of the most popular side dishes is patatas bravas, which are crispy sautéed potatoes served with a cayenne tomato sauce. Another dish I enjoyed was the Spanish tortilla, an omelet made with eggs, potatoes, and onion.
On Thursday, I scratched an item off my bucket list by visiting the Corgi Cafe. The cafe had the best orange juice paired wonderfully with my french toast. The visit was one of my favorite highlights of the week.
Metzineres is designed to support these individuals who are commonly excluded from access to social/ healthcare networks and services that address drug use and gender-based violence. Their work is grounded in human rights and ensures immediate access to its services.
Their organization focuses on those experiencing intersecting social challenges such as drug-related issues, homelessness, migration, LGTBIQ+ identities, sex work, incarceration, and mental health disorders. They enable every individual to reclaim their rights and live with dignity. All women are seen as active agents in their lives.
It was an empowering experience and it brings me comfort knowing that organizations and hearts like theirs exist. I hope to one day have an impact as big as the Metzineres.
During the weekend, I visited Costa Brava. Unfortunately, the Jardi Botanic Marimurtra was closed by the time I got there, so I didn’t get to see the garden. However, I was still able to enjoy the breathtaking views of the coast. I also had the chance to go on a boat ride with live jazz music which was a serene experience.
