Week 2: Museums, Castles, and Jazz Festivals!

Hi everyone! A lot has happened since my first week here I can hardly believe that I'm almost halfway through my trip. Looking back through my photos I can't believe the amount of stuff I've done so just to list a couple items that I won't go to far into depth to I watched a Soccer game last Thursday (England vs.Netherlands), did some souvenir shopping (highly recommend supporting the local aritsts! I went to Scottish Design Exchange), hiked Arthur's seat again, and visited a local market!

Last Sunday we went to Perth and upon telling one of the local Student Experience Coordinators I was asked, "Why would you go to Perth? What is there even in Perth?" 💀 (for those that don't understand the emoji use its like slang for I'm dead and is used for what I can't best describe as comedic flat shock). There was actually a lot to do in Perth though! The train ride was beautiful as we passed farmland and countryside and even though the town was quite small we were still able to visit Perth Museum and see The Stone of Destiny (used for ancient Scottish royalties coronations and used today for modern British coronations), we went to the Perth Art Museum, visited the River Tay, and saw many a Highland Coo (how the pronounce cow here).
Then on Tuesday my peers and I went to a Ceilidh! Despite the hot temperatures and disappointed looks from the old Scottish men at our inability to dance I had a great time. While I couldn't tell you any of the specific dances because of the thick accent of our Scottish announcer I can tell you that a move called the Flying Scotsman where you wind yourself between four people was hard to get on the first try... and the third and fourth (the guys were stumbling over themselves).

Then on Thursday, we visited Holyrood Palace where many a royal have stayed including Queen Mary of Scots herself! The Palace had an interactive audio experience that helped explain the significance of the artifacts there as well as give some history to the events that occurred in the palace (a must honestly if you ever come to Edinburgh). The photo to the right is me in front of the fountain in Holyrood as no photography is allowed in most of the palace

Then on Friday a friend and I went to see Tom Mcguire and The Brassholes at Edinburgh Jazz Festival and went into a Spiegeltent for the first time! It was a very fun experience and later, on Saturday, we got to listen to more jazz at Edinburgh's Mardi Gras! I love how walkable the city is and it just feels more lively than Perth and Glagow so far! Which speaking of...

I went to Glasgow this Sunday! Lots of my frinds we're saying they loved it more than Edinburgh because it was like New York City and while I'd love to visit again as there's so much to do and see that a single day can't encapsulate I'm firm in my love ofr Edinburgh. While in Glasgow we went to the Kelv

ingrove Art Gallery and Museum and then the botanical gardens, which were so beautiful.

Finally, before I go I just want to share some more thoughts about my time here! So far the people have been very kind to me here asking funny questions on the train like who would win a Highland Cow or The Loch Ness Monster and relating to me when I offhandedly said I miss my dog. The weather here is crazy, after the Ceilidh I did get soaked, but a couple of days later we got our one pure sunny day for the week ☀️. The walking here is amazing and I'm definitely going to miss the walkability of Edinburgh as we head back to the States (I'm averaging at least 16,637 steps a day). And I'm just going to dump a mix of photos at the bottom from the past week and a half 😎
